Accommodation

Our rooms are small, comfortable and contemporary, but with a nod back to the ‘leabaidh dhùinte’ or box beds found in the blackhouse cottages of long ago. We have four en-suite rooms sleeping twelve people in all, including a fully wheelchair accessible twin/double room. The guest kitchen has a large dining table and cosy seating. There is a laundrette and a café on site, and a large garden which is used for community growing.

‘This was a truly inspiring visit, not just because our students learned so much, but also because we were able to see with our own eyes how powerful community-based language/culture revitalisation is.'

’We are very impressed with Grinneabhat and all you are doing here. Some highlights for us were:

  • the cèilidh concert with Alice and Jack, tapadh leibh.

  • the walk to Port Mhòr Bhràdhagair, Manaisiadar and the shore roads, thanks to the excellent leaflet you have prepared.

  • the String/Lines exhibition also really lovely, showing use of local grasses, etc.

  • and of course the comfy beds and great kitchen, especially the window seat.’

‘The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable as well as the kitchen and cafe area. We were pleased to be invited to a poetry evening in the centre and enjoyed listening and taking part! We will have fond memories of Grinneabhat.’

‘We loved our walk along the nearby beach, full of large patterned stones and amazing types of seaweed. Very cosy beds and so welcoming.’

‘What a great community facility and comfy, spotlessly clean rooms. Love the window seat in the kitchen (+ drying room was VERY welcome after a wet bike ride!)’

‘Words cannot explain how much I enjoyed my stay here. In these few short days I have been invited to participate in some of the many community events held here and every single one was a delight.’

‘Thank you so much for inviting us into your community and sharing your traditions, history and way of living with us. This has been the most wonderful part of our trip for me so far.’

‘What an amazing place – and such friendly locals! The scenery is spectacular... Incredible! I’m glad to support such a wonderful community facility.’
